Spiritual development does not only become apparent in meditation or insights into knowledge but above all in how these are realised at work, in relationships and in daily life. A practical yoga connects spiritual content with social responsibility and creative action.1)The introductory summary at the beginning has been added for the online edition. Spiritual insights must become practical in life
Spiritual content needs to be worked on and thoroughly shaped until it is developed to a level in which it can be expressed in a social setting. This study requirement can be expressed in a different way, by saying that esoteric content should become exoteric.2) Esoteric indicates spiritual content and insights that have been opened up through intensive spiritual research but have not yet become common knowledge among people. Exoteric means giving this content a form that is comprehensible and practical for life so that it can have an increasing effect in society. (also see the chapter “Esoteric – Exoteric“ in the “The approach and aim of yoga out of the Purity of the Soul”) If spiritual studies are used to find a comfortable way into a stress free, alternative world removed from life, this leads to a dismemberment of the personality and usually creates the formation of groups, in which the strong identification of people with each other leads them to feel they are unique and elite and therefore close themselves off from a real approach that can be communicated with society.
From study to creative activity
The first contact with spiritual content can set free very pleasant, new energies, especially when shared by an authentic teacher. Depending on the extent to which students have become acquainted with spiritual truths, their obligation develops to continue to explore them in greater depth, to work them into a practical form and, ultimately, to apply them directly or indirectly in societal life. With the mature development of a responsible consciousness and social competence3)Social competence implies not merely being polite or conforming to the conventions of societal life, but the ability to cultivate thoughts, feelings and actions in such a way that they emanate a beneficial influence into the surroundings. better foundations for relationships arise for the whole of life, and people who set out on this path of working on spiritual content are so-called Karma Yogis4)The term karma-yoga stems from the Bhagavad Gita and denotes the path of conscious action that is free from karma. In the way it is used here it refers to spiritual insights being worked in a creative way into practical life. active creative workers, who realise Spirit right down into the cells of practical existence.
Requirements for practical realisation
For this activity of realisation, individual participants need the following preconditions:
- Valid communicable meditation content and study content; these must contain a true, universally valid core.
- A professional field of work that has meaning and significance in the whole of societal life. People who are already retired or do not have a job can, for example, practice meditation or asana in an intensive way, so that every day through a progressive effort and development, they can give out inspiring forces to world creation.5) “World creation” here does not refer to a singular act of creation that brought forth the material world, but rather an ongoing process of development that includes both the visible world as well the realm of the souls after death and the spiritual world.
- Sufficient contact with others, which does not exist within a similar group of like-minded people, but requires a kind of initiation of dialogue when interacting, is very important for this type of realisation of spiritual content. More favourable relationships form when individuals, striving for spiritual realisation, observe themselves in various encounters with others.
- If someone resolutely and intentionally plans to bring spiritual content to realisation, it requires perseverance and discipline, the ability to overcome emotions, and conscious consultation with a competent teacher so that healthy self-reflection is possible.
- In general, certain negative, destructive, absorbing or binding forms of actionism, in which individuals are often trapped, must be eliminated.
Teaching with a practical focus
The work of developing these outer forms can take place on the various weekends offered on my part. It has become apparent on the study courses over the last few years that the tutors who have been teaching, have not been able to convey how this activity flawlessly and strongly connects spirit and world, spiritual content and practical implementation, in the way envisaged.
The next advanced yoga teacher training
The next meeting of the advanced teacher training is from Thursday 16th July (2:30pm) until Sunday 19th July (1pm).
In this specialised training, particular emphasis will be placed on how to connect esoteric content with people in conversation. An individual and universal awareness-building in my form of teaching will be striven for by me.
