In all life situations, particularly at times of illness, it would be very beneficial if both patient and therapist could succeed in developing a very clear, body-free and thus a ‘sattva’ consciousness, in the way that has been presented in the last article. Is illness people’s actual enemy, or aren’t all sorts of complications a result of the adverse, unredeemed and exhausting states of consciousness of those who are ill, or not only of those who are ill, but even their friends, relatives and lastly the therapists treating them? Basically, illness is a reaction to the most diverse circumstances that take place in the consciousness, and therefore it should not be considered as actually hostile. Although a pain, a malfunction of the musculoskeletal system, or a state of depressive paralysis cause a considerable burden, nevertheless these are symptoms that react in response to various conditions of the consciousness, whether these are due to circumstances that are subjective or come from outside. Researching into where the actual enemies lie, with their opposing forces and disruptive mechanisms, is probably one of the most important tasks for those who are ill as well as for the therapists treating them. Every health impairment inevitably demands examination. Does this research remain only on the symptomatic, materially tangible plane, or does it take into consideration the mind and beyond this the influences from metaphysical and subtly working relationship-structures?
The experience that an illness, once it has been overcome, has brought about a beneficial turnaround for life, is probably not rare. Many people report episodes of suffering and because they have a very high resilience, processing-ability and wisdom they can classify the painful and depleting phases as positive. Basically, every conflict situation and period of suffering belongs to the development of human maturity. Those who are too extreme with their many hygiene measures and constantly live in fear of bacteria and viruses usually become fixated on their bodies, and do not use the opportunity for development with a progressive training of consciousness and the connected strengthening of the immune system. It would therefore be of great advantage if people could succeed in not seeing illness as the enemy and therefore not have to confront it with fear, but rather recognise the actual source and threat as being in life’s many omissions. Of course, one cannot speak of conscious and active omission in the case of a child who has experienced a disability right from the start. The suffering and the disability of children have a ‘karmic’ background and because of their profoundly problematic nature they will not be dealt with in this context. Many various forms of omission could promote illness in the coming years and deplete people in their potential.
In some older schools of wisdom, for example in mystery schools, there was a very clear knowledge that an illness did not come about by coincidence or solely through a bacterial infection, and that an accident with injuries also had a precisely determined significance. Every burdening, negative phenomenon that occurs on the plane of the body has its cause in the moral failings of many different people. However, it is not the case that the person who becomes ill always has the greatest moral failings. Often the causes of illness are to be sought in the circumstances of society and in periods of disharmonious relationship, and it is not uncommon today to find illnesses that are artificially produced by the powerful technology. Those who become ill today therefore carry one element from their own shortcomings and furthermore they almost always take part in the adverse effects of the circumstances of the time.
The consideration of an illness needs very objective analysis. A first step would actually be achieved towards better order if the patient, and even those people who are involved with the patient, become conscious in the fullest clarity that it is not the illness that represents the actual problem, but the different, undeveloped situations and the psychological pathologies that result from these. Ultimately, it is also the human being who produces carcinogenic substances and generates an abundant electro-smog that every single citizen has to share in.
An objective consideration and differentiation of the circumstances of illness and omission can pave a first path for people to strengthen their life forces. From this really logical and fear-free observation, healthy activities for the future can then come about.
